The splenius cervicis is a muscle in the neck region that extends along the lateral spine. It runs from the thoracic vertebrae to the upper cervical vertebrae and is responsible for lateral flexion, rotation and stabilization of the head. The splenius cervicis also helps to raise the head and contributes to upright posture. When contracted unilaterally, it can tilt and rotate the head to the same side.
