We're delighted to have you here! We're delighted to welcome you and your child to ApexaQLA Suisse. Whether you're attending a single session or participating in an intensive therapy program, this guide will help you start your first appointment well-prepared and relaxed. Our goal is for your child to feel comfortable, motivated, and maximize their therapy benefits.
General preparation for therapy
Good preparation can make a big difference. Here are the most important points to keep in mind:
Rested and energized: Please ensure your child has had enough sleep and eaten something before therapy. A rested and well-fed child will be better able to concentrate and participate.
No long journeys: Long journeys or stressful trips right before the session can tire your child. If possible, allow enough time and keep the journey as relaxed as possible.
Please arrive 20 minutes early: Arrive at least 20 minutes before your first appointment . This will allow enough time to settle in, change, fill out any forms—and, most importantly, give your child a chance to settle in.
What you should bring to the appointment
Here is a small checklist for a smooth start to therapy:
Doctor's prescription & insurance card: If available, please bring the doctor's prescription and your child's health insurance card.
All orthoses and assistive devices: Please bring all orthoses and assistive devices your child currently uses (e.g., insoles, splints, braces, braces) to your first appointment and paediatric assessments. This will help us accurately assess movement patterns and needs.
Comfortable clothing: Your child should wear clothing that allows for freedom of movement. Long pants are especially useful for protecting the legs during floor exercises.
Supportive shoes: Please provide your child with closed, supportive shoes with a sturdy upper. No sandals or slippers – sturdy shoes are important for safety and posture.
Favorite toy or music: Feel free to bring a favourite toy, a book, or a tablet with music or videos. Familiar things help your child feel more comfortable and often provide additional motivation during the exercises.
Regular sessions vs. intensive therapy: How to prepare
At ApexaQLA Suisse, we offer different forms of therapy. Some children attend regular therapy sessions (e.g., one per day), while others participate in intensive programs with two to six sessions per day over several days or weeks.
Depending on the format, there are different things to consider:
🕐 Regular sessions (1 session per day)
Overall, spend the day quietly and without major activities.
A small snack before the session helps to keep energy levels stable.
Even short sessions require concentration – allow your child to rest afterwards.
Observe how your child responds to therapy – every child is different, and breaks are important.
💪 Intensive therapy (2–6 sessions per day)
Plan the day well: Your child will be doing a lot – so plan rest breaks between sessions (e.g. 10 minutes).
Don't forget snacks and water: Pack plenty of snacks, drinks, and, if necessary, a lunch to ensure your child is well-nourished throughout the day. Our centre also has a refrigerator stocked with snacks and food. If your child is participating in intensive therapy, please let us know what they like—we'll be happy to go shopping for you!
Pack a change of clothes: Spare clothes are particularly helpful if you are active a lot or if you have younger children.
Favourite things for breaks: Toys, blankets, headphones or a familiar object can help you relax during breaks.
Make the evenings quiet: After intensive days, your child should not have any further activities – rest is important.
Good sleep is crucial: make sure you get enough sleep at night and – if necessary – take short naps in between.
Intensive therapies are very effective, but also exhausting. The better prepared and recovered your child is, the more they will benefit.
A few more important notes
Therapy is work – even if it looks playful. Your child learns new movements and develops new skills – this requires strength, concentration, and motivation.
Your attitude matters: Stay calm, positive, and supportive. Children sense your energy—when you're relaxed, your child feels safe.
Be happy about every little bit of progress: Every step counts – even if it seems small. Your praise and support motivate your child enormously.
