The Ankle Dorsiflexion Assist (DFA) System is useful for individuals who have or may potentially develop calf muscle contractures. There are two product configurations: OneSleep system for use overnight or during naps and aGear system for use in walking training. Additionally there is the possibility of aCombination unitAvailable for all-day use: The combination unit contains a sleep system and a walk system. The product size is determined according to the wearer's shoe size.

Main advantages:

DFA sleep system: This system is designed to reduce or prevent calf muscle contractures. It is a comfortable, sleep-friendly system that ensures low impact and long-lasting stretching of the shortened calf muscles and soft tissue without putting strain on the metatarsal joint. Key features and applications include:

  • Metatarsal joint support with split strap: Provides essential metatarsal joint support for foot deformity management and sleep comfort.
  • Support for supination or pronation: Tilts the foot position to the preferred orientation.
  • Forefoot DF strap: Allows for a gentle, adjustable stretch of the calf muscles.
  • 5-point DF split belt: Provides midfoot stabilization and gentle stretching of the calf muscles, toe flexors and plantar fascia with a snug, adjustable wrap.

DFA gear system: This system can be configured for in-shoe or out-of-shoe wear and offers the following key features and applications:

  • simplicity: Easy and quick to put on!
  • Support dynamic ankle movement: Uses the dynamic gait trainer to improve ankle movement in gait without replacing the DF muscles.
  • Additional clinical support: Provides hands-free dorsiflexion (DF) support and foot freedom when training clients on treadmills - with or without partial weight support.
  • adaptability: Fine-tune the dorsiflexion support moment to account for changes in ankle function over time - simply by moving or removing a strap!
  • Orthotic design preview: To evaluate the effectiveness of an articulated free ankle with dorsiflexion support joints for the patient prior to the design, prescription or fabrication of custom orthoses.

The Dorsiflexion Assist (DFA) combination set contains a sleep and gait system in one unit.

Indications and Applications:

Cerebral palsy: It supports foot elevation and stabilization to improve gait in patients with cerebral palsy.

Traumatic brain injury:In the acute, post-acute and chronic phases, the DFA system can help restore or maintain dorsiflexion function.

Hemiplegia due to stroke: In all phases after the stroke, the DFA system can support motor control and movement of the foot.

Disc prolapse: If there is weakness in dorsiflexion as a result of a herniated disc, the DFA system can improve foot elevation.

Dropfoot in multiple sclerosis: The system can improve walking ability by supporting foot elevation.

Guillain-Barré syndrome:In cases of progressive muscle weakness, the DFA system can support foot function.

Parkinson's disease:In this disease, the DFA system can help increase gait stability.

Peroneal paralysis:The system supports foot elevation when the peroneal nerve is paralyzed.

Plantar fasciitis:By supporting dorsiflexion, the DFA system can help reduce tension in the plantar fascia.

Talipes Equinovarus (flexible type):In this form of foot deformity, the DFA system supports the correction of the foot position.

Toe walking:The DFA system can help promote a normal gait pattern and correct toe walking.
