Therapy explained
TheraTogs: your partner in therapy and rehabilitation
Posture, injury recovery, neurological conditions, early development — the four main jobs TheraTogs do, and the science that makes a soft garment work so hard.
Some therapy tools work for one hour a week. TheraTogs work all day. This wearable strapping system has become one of the most versatile tools in our ORCA — Objective Reasoning & Clinical Architecture — toolkit, used for everything from posture correction to neurological rehabilitation. Here's where it came from, what it's used for, and how we fit it at our centre.
Where TheraTogs come from
TheraTogs were developed by Beverly "Billi" Cusick, PT, MS — a physiotherapist with over 35 years of experience in paediatric neuromotor rehabilitation — and first launched in September 2002. The product pairs high-quality materials with ergonomic design: the breathable GoldTone™ fabric distributes pressure evenly and moulds to the body's contours without restricting freedom of movement. You can read how we work with the system on our TheraTogs method page.
The four main uses
1. Posture correction. TheraTogs help improve postural problems in children and adults, supporting proper alignment of the spine and nudging the body towards a healthier carriage — hour after hour, not just in the therapy room.
2. Rehabilitation after injury. In recovery, the garments apply gentle compression to muscles and joints, promote circulation and support correct alignment while tissue heals. Because every strap is individually placed, the setup is tailored to the specific injury and stage of healing.
3. Support for neurological conditions. For people living with cerebral palsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis or spinal injuries, TheraTogs provide targeted support that improves motor skills — and with them, confidence.
4. Supporting development. In children, the system supports early movement patterns and motor milestones. In adults, it helps with back pain, joint problems and recovery after neurological events.
The science behind the garment
TheraTogs are built on principles of kinesiology and neuromotor science. Precisely placed points of gentle pressure encourage muscles and joints to work together, refining natural movement patterns and helping the body "remember" more efficient ways to move. The input is quiet and constant — which is exactly why it works: thousands of small reminders a day add up to retraining.
TheraTogs and DMI: better together
The combination with Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) multiplies the effect of both. While TheraTogs hold the body in better alignment, DMI actively provokes automatic postural responses and builds motor skills through neuroplasticity — the garment sets the stage, the movement writes the story. Many of the children we see wear their TheraTogs during DMI sessions and through daily life in between.
Getting fitted at our centre
A tool this individual should never be guessed at. Apexa QLA Suisse offers personal consultations — in person or by video call — to determine sizing and configuration, and you can order TheraTogs through our shop once the right setup is clear.
Whether TheraTogs become part of your child's plan — or your own recovery — starts with a conversation. Get in touch and we'll find out together.
